Iron is mainly absorbed in the
small intestine particularly mucosal cells in the duodenum & proximal jejunum.
Usually iron is absorbed in ionic
from iron is much more effectively absorbed in ferus F++ then ferric from.
Iron is present in diet mainly as:
* Haem from
*Iron salt
*Iron complex with organic
compound
Therefore therapeutic iron is
usually given in the form of iron of iron complex to organic compound.
Haem:
Haem iron is directly absorbed in
the mucosal surface intently as liemin but none have iron in foods & iron
in-organic iron salt & iron complex with organic compound is absorbed by
converting it to ferrous form by the helps of same reducing agent.
Ex:
·
HcL
·
Ascorbic acid
·
Succinct thiol group.
After entering from the mucosal
cell absorbed ferus iron is converted to ferric iron. Together with the ferric
iron spit form of hemin are converted to ferreting & started in the mucosal
cell then transmitted from mucosal cell to plasma via transferin.
