What is blood? Give the composition of blood?

Blood: Blood is a fluid connective tissue in which there is inter cellular substance (plasma) and formed elements (RBC, WBC and platelets) suspended in the plasma which circulates in closed system of blood vessels. It is red, thick and slightly alkaline.

Composition of blood:

1. Blood cell -45%

      a.R.B.C/erythrocytes/ red blood corpuscles

      b.W.B.C/ leukocytes / white blood corpuscles

     c.Platelets / thrombocytes

2. Plasma-55%

      a.Liquid- 99-92%water

      b.Solid – 8-9%

(1) Inorganic -0.9% Na, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, p, Cu.

(2) Organic -8%

*Protein- serum albumin, serum globulin, fibrinogen, prothrombin

*Non-protein – Uric acid, creatine, amino acid.

* Fat – phospholipids, cholesterol.

*Carbohydrates – Glucose, sucrose

*Other substances – Enzymes

* Colorings matters – Bilirubin
