kidney: The kidneys are a pair of excretory organs. The are situated on the posterior abdominal wall, one on each side of the vertebral column behind the peritoneum in lumber region.

Location and position : The kidney occupies the epigastric, hypochondriac, lumber and umbilical regions. vertically they extend from the upper border of 12th thoracic vertebra to the center of the body of 3rd lumber vertebra. The right kidney lies slightly than the left due to the right lobe of the liver. the right kidney is shorter and thicker than the left.
